The Beverly Institute
Unexcused Absences
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
The Beverly Institute will release any student who accumulates ten (10) unexcused
absences within a 90 calendar day period, or five (5) within a calendar month.
Additionally, we will notify the district of each student who is developing a pattern of
non-attendance as determined by the Child Study Team. Shopping trips, pleasure
trips, vacations, truancy, avoidable absences and appointments or other absences,
shall be deemed to be an unexcused absence. Any suspension from the center shall
be an unexcused absence.
Any student of required attendance age who has any absence without a valid reason
being given shall be subject, together with the parents or guardians, to the provisions
of Section 1003.27, Florida Statutes.
Students between the ages of 16 and 18 are subject to required attendance unless
they and their parents or guardian file a formal intent to terminate school attendance
with The Beverly Institute.
Under no condition shall a pupil be required or permitted to answer roll call and then
be excused from the Center’s attendance as a means of circumventing the law and
regulations.
Attendance of pupils for at least 180 days of instruction or the equivalent as provided
by law and regulations of the State Board shall be required except for absence due to
illness or as otherwise provided by law. When a pupil enrolls in The Beverly
Institute, he shall be required to be regular in attendance even though, because of his
age (18), he may not be subject to the required attendance law.
Suspended Students (Out-of-School) - Students suspended from school will receive
unexcused absence marks for each day they are suspended. Suspended students will
receive zeros for each day they are out.
