The Beverly Institute, Inc. " Changing the Way School Is Done"
|
La'Tanya Dewberry
La'Tanya Dewberry founded The Beverly Institute (TBI) in 2003 on two very basic principles. The
first principle is to teach and live the doctrines of Jesus Christ. The second principle is to offer a
fine academic program. She believes that these two principles complement one another,
working together to form the whole person. Using these principles as her beacon, she took a
small group of children who were struggling in school or had learning disabilities and started a
small independent home-schooling program. La'Tanya Dewberry had a passion not only for
children but for parents wanting to take control of their child's education.

History of Our School and Its Name
La'Tanya Dewberry named the school after her mother (Beverly Jean Shelton) in honor of the life she lived and the love she had for
children. Furthermore, her own daughter (Beverly Ann Shelton) was born with epilepsy and struggled in her cognitive development all
through her elementary school years. In 2003, La'Tanya took her daughter and 4 other students who were also struggling and began
to home-school them out of her small two bedroom apartment. By the end of that school year she had 12 students and had to move
into a house. In 2005, the home-schooling program became a small Christian private school through the Florida Department of
Education. Then in 2006, educating 36 students she had to move the school out of the house and into a building. The Beverly Institute
has educated hundreds of students not only changing their lives academically but spiritually. She calls the school a place of transition.
She did not limit the school to students with learning disabilities, or multiple years behind, she opened the doors for students looking for
a break from the traditional classroom setting.
The Beverly Institute has reached many students and helped molded them into the direction of academic success. Upon reaching this
success, they can move on to the next level, which is entering back into the traditional classrooms anywhere. The success rate of The
Beverly Institute is at 80% with students entering back into traditional schools (public/private) at their appropriate grade level and/or
above there next grade. The Beverly Institute utilizes its special curriculum and adjusts time for slow learners, which gives them an
opportunity to learn without the pressures and demands of a time schedule. The Beverly Institute assists in selecting the right curriculum
for each student at an individual level to ensure their schooling experience is a great one. Furthermore, no one student can be held
back by another student based on his/her understanding of a lesson. Students are encouraged to work according to their own pace
during the school year.
The Beverly Institute is a family-oriented, Christian school not only for the students but for our parents as well. Parents are encouraged to
assist in the educating of their child and are welcome to the school at any time. Caring and loving parents are the leading aid in the
success of a child.
Welcome to The Beverly Institute!
It's our pleasure to welcome you to The Beverly Institute! We're an energetic and creative bunch, dedicated to high standards of
excellence since 2003. We value each one of our parents and students, and we hope that you find your academic year here
rewarding and satisfying. We are happy to have you as a new member of our family!
Mission Statement
The mission of The Beverly Institute is to establish an educational system that provides personal development, unconditional love, moral
values, and a desire to be an asset in society. We accomplish this by allowing the student to know that they have support and a
cheering section for their success. We invest personal time and attention into the development of our students mental, emotional, and
social stability. Our investment is for those who have a desire to learn, but have been lost in the shuffle due to behavioral problems,
pregnancy, family issues or feeling of inadequacies.
School Scripture
Mark 10: 13-16
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when
Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such
is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
