GENERAL
CODE OF ATTENDANCE
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT
The Beverly Institute will release any student who
accumulates ten (10) unexcused absences within a 90 calendar day period, or
five (5) within a calendar month. Additionally, we will notify the district
of each student who is developing a pattern of non-attendance as determined by
the Child Study Team. Shopping trips, pleasure trips, vacations, truancy,
avoidable absences and appointments or other absences, shall be deemed to be an
unexcused absence. Any suspension from the school shall be an unexcused
absence. Any student of compulsory attendance age who has any absence without a
valid reason being given shall be subject, together with the parents or
guardians, to the provisions of Section 1003.27, Florida Statutes.
Students between the ages of 16 and 18 are subject
to enforced attendance unless they and their parents or guardian file a formal
intent to terminate school attendance with The Beverly Institute.
Attendance of pupils for at least 180 days of instruction
or the equivalent as provided by law and regulations of the State Board shall
be required except for absence due to illness or as otherwise provided by law.
When a pupil enrolls in The Beverly Institute, he shall be required to be
regular in attendance even though, because of the pupils age (18), the pupil
may not be subject to the required attendance law.
NOTIFICATION
OF ATTENDANCE POLICIES
At the beginning of each school year in their
homeroom class, students will be informed of the school board policies
regarding attendance. When and if an absence occurs, upon reporting back to
school, the student must bring a written excuse by the parent or guardian as to
the cause of the absence. Any adult student shall file a personally written
statement as to the cause of his absence.
Failure to bring such a note or to file such a statement shall result in
an automatic unexcused absence.
HABITUAL
TRUANCY
The legislature finds that poor academic
performance is associated with nonattendance. Additionally, it is found that
early intervention related to school attendance matters is the most effective
way of producing good attendance habits that will lead to improved student
learning and achievement. Each parent and legal guardian of a child within the
required attendance age is responsible for the child’s school attendance as
required by law. Habitual truancy has been defined as ten (10) unexcused
absences or more in a ninety (90) calendar day period, or five (5) unexcused
absences within a calendar month.
Each principal or administrator is to notify the
superintendent/designee of each student who is developing a pattern of
non-attendance as determined by the Child Study Team. The law requires certain
intervention steps prior to filing a petition with the court. (FS 1003.26)
RECEIVING
ATTENDANCE
It
is mandatory that all pupils sign-in at the front office when entering the
school tardy and/ or leaving early. Classroom attendance is taken each day at
the beginning of each block. Daily
attendance is also taken during homeroom.
Developing
habits of timeliness is strongly encouraged. Tardy(s) are disruptive to the
educational process and also have an adverse effect on your child’s learning.
Tardiness, except for medical appointments and circumstances, which cannot be
humanly controlled, are excused. Excessive tardiness will result in
administrative disciplinary action.
Three tardy(s) (3) equals one day’s unexcused absence.
Disciplinary Action: Every three tardies student will receive a
demerit. (3 demerits will result in after school detention
or Saturday school)
EARLY DISMISSALS

note signed by a parent to the school office at the beginning of the school
day. Parents who do not send a note are
required to authorize the early dismissal in person or by fax.

who are picked up early from school must be signed out in the school
office. Only parents and authorized
pickup persons will be allowed to remove a child from school premises.

pickup on a frequent basis interferes with the learning process. If a student is picked up 30 minutes before
