GENERAL
CODE OF APPEARANCE
Administrators and Facilitators of The
Beverly Institute shall enforce dress and grooming guidelines that promote the
successful operation of the School. The site administration shall be the final judge
as to neatness and cleanliness of wearing apparel and whether or not such
apparel is appropriate, disruptive, distracting, or in violation of health and
safety rules. The General Code of Appearance shall not restrict the school
administration’s authority to implement the School Board’s Policy on Student
Uniforms.
Each student has the responsibility to
dress appropriately for the school environment. Wearing apparel, jewelry
(such as body piercing(s) ornaments) hair, and general appearance shall not disrupt
the classroom atmosphere, shall not be unusually provocative, and/or shall not
violate health and safety rules of the school. These guidelines for dress and
grooming are provided to assist parents and shall apply to all students attending
The Beverly Institute. Student dress and grooming shall be neat and clean, and
follow the general guidelines below.
·All
students must be in Uniform everyday or they will not be allowed on campus.
·Male
students must wear their pants pulled up at all times. Belts are also required to be worn at all
times with Uniform.
·Shoes
must be worn. However, bedroom shoes or slippers shall not be worn.
·
The wearing of braided hair or cornrows by
male students is permissible, as long as the entire head is neatly
braided. Students will not be allowed at
the Center with a portion of their hair braided and the other portion worn
unbraided. (Loose plats and/or loose
braids, as well as twists, and/or locs are not permissible.)
·
Male student’s afros cannot be longer then
an 1 ½ inch.
·
Beads, combs or ribbons in the hair, or
any hairstyle with ponytails are not permitted for male students.
·
All hairstyles should be clean, combed and
well groomed at all times.
·Halter-tops,
tank tops, backless tops, top with thin or no straps, or tops that show midriff
or expose the body are prohibited at anytime on Center Property.
·See-through or
mesh garments shall not be worn at anytime on Center Property.
·Form-fitting or
overly tight clothing shall not be worn on Center Property.
·Properly hemmed
outer garments such as shorts, divided skirts, and dresses may be worn,
provided they are not disruptive or distractive, as determined TBI administration.
Garments including, but not limited to such items as boxer shorts,
traditionally designed as undergarments, may not be worn as outer garments.
·Clothing and
accessories shall not be worn if they display profanity, violence, lewd and
obscene messages, sexually suggestive phrases, or advertisements, phrases or
symbols of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs or other

phrases or advertisements that would be offensive to common propriety or
decency.
Ø These
garments are not to be worn under TBI Uniform at any time on Center Property.
·Head coverings,
including, but not limited to, caps, hats, bandannas, hair curlers, and/or
sunglasses, shall not be worn on Center property, unless required by a
physician or authorized by Center personnel.
·The waistband
of shorts, slacks, skirts, and similar garments shall not be worn below the
hips. Underwear, midriff and back may not be exposed. If belts, suspenders, and
straps are worn, they shall be worn in place and fastened.
·Any
articles of clothing or jewelry that may cause injury to one self or to other
students are not allowed.
·Wearing
apparel, jewelry (such as body piercing(s) ornaments) hair, and general
appearance shall not disrupt the classroom atmosphere, shall not be unusually
provocative, and/or shall not violate health and safety rules of the Center.
·
Athletic or casual shoes may be worn every
day.
·
All students enrolled in a P.E. course are
required to change out for class.
·
This code of appearance shall also apply
to all Center-sponsored activities and events, unless otherwise authorized by
school administration.
DRESS
CODE STATEMENT
The Beverly Institute, Inc. is a
All students must adhere to these minimal
guidelines for acceptable apparel and appearance. In order to maximize
instructional time, students will be given an opportunity to immediately
correct dress code violations.
Disciplinary Actions:
1st
Offense Phone
call to the parents; 1 Demerit (3 demerits student will have after school
detention or
2nd
Offense
Student has already
attended after school detention or
3rd
Offense Students
that have been issued ISSP for a dress code violation and continue to violate
School Dress Code Violation will result in a two-day suspension. (Student will
receive zeros for those days; they may do the work but will not receive credit
for it.) (See suspension for more details in student handbook)
4th
Offense Student
will be dismissed from The Beverly Institute
Sign and return policy to
school; another copy of General Code of Appearance in located in your
student Handbook.
